Discount rules
Verified
In short
Section titled “In short”Discount rules (Marketing / Sales → Campaigns → Settings) set for each store the maximum discount that a discount code, a sale price and a campaign may give. They apply to you, to the internal assistant and to AI connected via MCP: a write above the limit is not carried out and the app tells you why.
A new rule is off, with a suggested value of 30%. Until you turn it on, nothing is checked.
What you set
Section titled “What you set”Each store has one row with a switch (on, off) and, after clicking Edit, four options:
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Maximum discount | sale and code combined, as a percentage of the full price |
| Applies to | entire e-shop, or selected categories and products (with exclusions); the same picker as for a discount code, only what the e-shop platform supports |
| Method | sale prices and codes, sale prices only, or discount codes only |
| Include partner commission | for a partner code from Affiliate, the commission is deducted from the limit |
The “never below the cost price” rule always applies and has no option of its own.
A rule with a selection in Applies to applies to a discount that reaches the selected categories or products: a code for the entire e-shop always does, a code or sale price outside the selection does not. On Shoptet you select categories or products (one of the two), on WooCommerce both, including exclusions. The sale prices only method allows no code at all, neither a fixed-amount code nor a partner code.
How the limit is calculated
Section titled “How the limit is calculated”Sale and code multiply in the store: the code is deducted from the already discounted price. The limit is therefore compared with the real discount from the full price:
| Sale | Code | Real discount | With a 30% limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| −10% | −20% | 28% | passes |
| −12.5% | −20% | 30% | passes |
| −20% | −20% | 36% | does not pass |
The check runs on every write:
- discount code with a percentage (Discount codes screen, assistant, MCP),
- sale price (product card, bulk editing, assistant, MCP),
- campaign: a campaign above the limit cannot be approved.
Turning the rule on does not change existing codes and prices. The limit applies to further writes.
Partner commission
Section titled “Partner commission”You never enter the commission. MitoOps knows it from Affiliate (the reward of the partner’s campaign). The Include partner commission option only decides whether it is deducted from the limit for a partner’s code:
| Limit 35%, partner commission 10% | Ticked | Not ticked |
|---|---|---|
| the partner code gives the customer at most | 25% | 35% |
| discount and commission combined | 35% | 45% |
| public code for everyone | unchanged | unchanged |
The commission does not affect a public code or the text “discounts up to X%”.
Changes via the assistant and MCP
Section titled “Changes via the assistant and MCP”The assistant and AI via MCP can read the rules and calculate the discount for any combination. They first show a rule change as a before and after preview and write it only after you confirm. Over MCP this requires the “Campaigns: change discount rules” scope.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- The code cannot be created, “exceeds the store limit”. The code’s discount is higher than the limit. Lower the percentage or change the limit here.
- The sale price was not written. The sale price on its own is a discount higher than the limit, or the store allows codes only.
- The partner code did not pass. With the commission ticked, the code’s cap is the limit minus the partner’s commission.
